This is when you delete and add new files to your computer and sometimes your hard disk reads these massive amounts of files as only a single valid file. Because of this, the drive will scan multiple parts of the disk to search and read a file. This will drag the speed of the computer and you begin to here weird noises coming from your computer. This is when you know your computer has fragmented files, and this will lower the performance of your hard disk and PC.

Defragmenting your hard drive is the best way to boost the performance of your PC. It's a simple and helpful process. Click the break to find out more about defragging and software which can help you along the way.

Many Windows users may have discovered that there OS already comes with a pre-built in software known as 'Disk Defragmenter' in the System Tools folder under Accessories. As many may have already experienced, it doesn't really do the job well. Sometimes problems may occur during the process and could end up with fatal errors or possibly even the Blue Screen of Death. So, it’s not recommended to use the pre-install software Windows has to offer.

So what to do? Well, luckily there's a freeware known as Smart Defrag.  With an clean UI and user friendly interface, Smart Defrag will analyze your hard disks and give you a recommend performance setting to defrag your hard disks. One you click on the recommended setting, Smart Defrag will start defragging your hard disk.

What is really neat about this software is that it's one of those 'install and forget about it.'  You can close the software and it will automatically run in the background of your computer, making sure your hard disk is running to its maximum performance.

So is your system over due for a defrag?  Then Smart Defrag is your best bet when it comes to fast and efficient defragmentation.
